Tipu Sultan University

MANGALORE: Governor HR Bhardwaj on Wednesday said that the people who oppose setting up of the Tipu Sultan University at Srirangapatna are not "proper" people.

The governor told reporters, "This is a secular country. Those people who are biased against minorities are not proper people. They should realize that all of us have to sink or swim together. What's wrong in naming the university after a national hero? Can anybody deny this? It is most welcome. Minorities have rights in this country and it is not good to isolate them."

Minority affairs minister K Rahman Khan' who was termed as "spokesperson of terrorists" by BJP spokesperson G Madhusoodan, said he would not comment on a personal remark made against him. ``The government will go ahead with its work (of setting up the university),'' he added.

KPCC president Parameshwara and Congress leader Janardhan Poojary also condemned BJP spokesperson G Madhusoodan's remarks. Madhusoodan had said that land cannot be given to Tippu Sultan Central University at Srirangapatna.

Parameshwara said Tipu is a patriot and a secular person. ``There should be talk of amity and not divisive or communal politics,'' he added. The Union ministry of minority affairs had in November last year announced that it would set up five universities across the country under the private-public partnership model where minority students will get 50% reservation.

YES, TIPPU WAS A GREAT PATRIOT UNLIKE DECCAN NAWAB WHO SIDED WITH BRITISHERES FOR PERSONAL GAINS. IN SRIRANGAPATNA, HINDU LOCALS EVEN TODAY HOLD HIM HIGH IN ESTEEM. HE WAS AGREAT WARRIOR OF WHICH BRITSHERES WERE AFRAID. A TEMPLE & MOSQUE ARE BOTH FOUND IN TIPPUS PALACE COMPOUND TODAY SIGNIFYING THAT HOW GREAT SECULAR MINDED THAT HE WAS.
HE WAS AMONG THE ONE INDIAN PATRIOT WHO OPPOSED BRITISHERS AND FOUGHT THEM AND WANTED TO SAVE MYSORE FROM FALLING INTO THIER HANDS. If he were alive, he fully deseved a ASHOKA CHAKRA GALLANTRY AWARD FOR HIS GALLANTRY AND PATRIOTISM. A NAME IN HIS HONOR IS BEFFITING TRIBUTE TO THIS GREAT SOUL. I CALL MY FRIENDS WHO OPPOSE THIS IDEA TO CHECK FOR THEMSELVES THE HISTORY OF MYSORE & HIS RULE DURING COLONIAL TIMES.
